Faith lesson in Samson’s life

“And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,  Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.”

What faith lesson is there in Samson’s life? Samson is well known to most people if not all because of his physical strength and his fling with Delilah that led to his destruction. The story is found in Judges 13 -16. Samson at the beginning
of his life was mightily anointed by God but he was not someone who walked by faith at that time.

There were physical evidences that gave him the assurance that God was with him and as long as those physical evidences were present, Samson would act out his strength. But after he was betrayed by Delilah and his hair was cut and his eyes put out, he came to the place where he had to believe that God was with him and he could do the same thing he was anointed to do.

“And Samson called unto the Lord, and said, O Lord God, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes. And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left. And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.” Judges 16:28-30

The scriptures say what things soever you desire when you pray, believe that you receive them and you shall have them. Samson prayed to God, believed that he had received, and acted it out. So from Samson we learn that we walk by faith and not by sight. When the physical evidences are no longer there, believe that God is still working out his plans and purpose in your life.
