“2:16 “Holding forth the word of life…” “holding out [to it] and offering [to
all men] the word of life…” (Amp)
I
will like to show you something else in our passage above today. According to
Websters’ Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary “holding” means having the effect of
holding back or delaying something. Then the word “faith” means to “put out
into view”.
Putting
these meanings together to explain “holding forth” means what you put out in
view has the effect of delaying something. From our text, “holding forth the
word of life” means when we put into view the word of life, it holds back or
has the effect of delaying something.
In
the context in which the scripture appeared, when we bring the word of God into
public view, it holds back darkness. Glory to God! What happens when darkness
is held back? Light shines forth.
Therefore,
do not hide the word of God, bring it out into public view and you will shine
in this world.

I am not ashamed of the gospel of our Lord
Jesus Christ, it is the power of God unto Salvation. This light of mine, I will
let it shine!
