The cross of our Lord Jesus Christ

1 Corinthians 1:18
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” NIV

We are still on this not often talked about thing in the body of Christ – the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. I ended yesterday’s meditation on the note that if your walk with God had not yet made a demand on the things you love to do, it is still a babyish Christianity.

I showed you the example of Moses where the Scripture said, when he was grown up, he refused to be called Pharoah’s daughter, he chose to suffer with God’s people. When we talk about denying yourself, understand it is not about sin, it is about the things you love that are not sinful, sometimes they may even be blessings God gave you. Remember Abraham?

“And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah;
and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.” Genesis 22:1-3 KJV

“For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.” Phil 3:4-8 KJV

This is the ultimate of living the crucified life, where you let go of things for the gospel’s sake, things not sinful but good. You let go of them because God makes such demand on you. We are all called to live such lives.
