Faith and hope

Hebrews 11:1
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” KJV

The next thing I want to show you, is the dwelling place of both faith and hope which shows also that they are not one and the same. Faith is a heart thing while hope is a mind thing.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9&10

“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul…” Hebrews 6:19
It is because faith is a heart thing that some call it a conviction in the heart.

Lastly, from our text, the Bible calls faith the substance of things hoped for. The word translated for substance is “hupostasis” and it means, “that which stands under” something else or “provides the basis for” something else. So faith provides the basis for hope or faith is the underlying reality of things hoped for.
