Matt 1:18-23
“This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother
Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she
was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband
was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had
in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of
the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not
be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is
from the Holy Spirit.
She will give birth to a son, and you are
to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. All
this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: The
virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him
Immanuel"-which means, "God with us." NIV
As Christmas approaches let us learn some
faith lessons that God walked in to bring to reality the birth of our Saviour.
If God obeyed His own laws of faith in other to give substance to His desire,
then you and I cannot do any less. Firstly, note the highlighted sentence, “all
this took place to fulfill what the Lord had
said through the prophet…” This means God spoke out His desire first. He
started speaking about it in Genesis and continued all through the Scriptures.
He spoke about His birth, lifestyle, death, resurrection and ascension. It
happened as it was foretold.
Friend nothing will happen to you that you
have not spoken about, whether positive or negative. The first lesson of faith
is, THE WORD MUST BE THE BASIS OF YOUR FAITH.
The second faith lesson we see from this
also is that if you want to see it come to pass you also must speak about it
constantly. God did not stop at the proclamation He did in Genesis, He
continued to speak about it all through the Scriptures.
Thirdly, if you do not give up on your
faith, it will bring forth results. From the time the birth of the Messiah was
foretold till it came to pass, it took thousands of years, yet it came to pass.
Faith will always produce for you if you do not give up.
Fourthly, that God’s word will never fail
to come to pass. The basis of a faith that is strong is the integrity of God’s
word. If satan can make you doubt the integrity of God’s word your faith can
never be strong. But God said it concerning giving man a Saviour and He did it
even though it took thousands of years. He will do for you also whatever, His
word says. Accept that today and rejoice.
