Gen 15:1” After these things the word of the Lord came unto
Abram in a vision saying Fear not Abraham, I am thy shield and your exceeding
great reward”
You must accept God as an exceeding God;
you must see Him as an exceeding God. You need to know whatever image you have
of God, He surpassed that image, He exceeds that image, He can outdo that
image, He is above and beyond that image He is an exceeding God.
Why would He come to Abraham in this
way? Why would He say this? Obviously Abraham is afraid of something.
What could He be afraid of? In the earlier chapter; the Bible shows to us
Abraham had just won a great battle, He had a great spoil, great material
possessions, and He gave tithe of the spoil, and gave everything back to the
people that have it. It is after these things that the word of the Lord came to
Him saying Abraham; Fear not:
That was Abraham’ situation, what is your
own situation? In what area have you obeyed God that it seems as if you are lessened
rather than increased? What is it that is bringing fear
to your own life?
Whatever has brought fear into your
heart, God says “I am above that thing; I am greater than that thing, so; Fear
not I am your exceeding God”.
God’s dealings are exceeding, so you
find in the life of Jesus when He came that He introduced Himself as the one
that can do exceedingly
John10:10 “The Thief cometh not, but for to steal,
and to kill and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they
might have it more abundantly.”
If he just said abundantly, that alone is
worth celebration (because the term ‘abundance’ implies more than enough) but
he said more abundantly, Is that not exceeding?
The amplified Bible says “The thief come only in order to steal,
kill and destroy but I came that they may have and enjoy life and have it in
abundance to the full till it overflows…”
When something is overflowing that means
it is exceeding the container that you want to put it, so God is telling us he
is an exceeding God.
Child of God, you must see your God as an
exceeding God who is able to exceed the box you have put Him in.
Ps23:5 “…………my
cup runneth over.” Why would God make your cup run over? It
is not because God is being wasteful, He is excessive in His dealings, He is
doing that to you so that the one in the cup is for you the one that runs over
is for other people.
We learn God is not cautious in His love
towards you, but extravagant, that’s why He says I will bless you and make you
a blessing. It is because of His love that He can be exceeding towards you.
God introduced himself as an
exceeding God, Jesus introduced Himself as an exceeding God so also the Holy
Spirit.
