Matthew 2:1-2
“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the
days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in
the east, and are come to worship him.”
Today is celebrated the world over as the
day Jesus was born, it’s Christmas day! So we continue our faith lessons around
one of the most significant events of the Christian calendar. Now let us not
split heads over whether Jesus was actually born in September or not, that does
nothing to our faith. The Magi saw a star,
a special one and so they said they had seen His star. I see this star in two
ways.
Firstly, I see it as the faith of the
believer. This is because the star was an evidence that someone special is
somewhere and the Scripture says it (the star) led them and rested where the
child Jesus was. The Scripture says, “faith is
the evidence of things hoped for…”, your faith is evidence
that that the real thing exists and it will take you to the real thing if you hold
unto it tenaciously as the wise men followed the star diligently.
Secondly, you also are that star. We are
to live our lives in such a way that other people are led to the Saviour.
“Those
who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead
many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.” Daniel 12:3
When Jesus was born it required a literal
star to lead men to the place of His birth. Now you the believer are His star
that is supposed to lead men to where He is sitted to reign, heaven. This
you will accomplish by the way you live your life as His representative here on
earth. It is therefore your responsibility on this earth whether people are
being led to Jesus or not.
Therefore this day, as you celebrate
consider this very important thing, are people being led to Jesus by your life
or being led away from Him. Paul says;
“Ye are
our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: Forasmuch as ye
are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written
not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone,
but in fleshy tables of the heart.” 2Corinthians 3:2,3
