Matt 1:1-6
The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David,
the son of Abraham. Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat
Judas and his brethren; And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares
begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram; And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat
Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon; And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz
begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse; And Jesse begat David the king; and
David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
Let us take some more lessons of faith
from birth of Jesus today in consonance with the season we are in. Did you
notice in the genealogy of Jesus Christ that there are at least four women
mentioned whose background under normal
circumstances would warrant that they be not included.
You have Tamar or Thamar who slept with
her father in law, then you have Rahab who was a harlot, Ruth who was a
Moabite, someone who by reason of social class should not be included. Finally,
you have Bathsheba, though not mentioned by name, with whom David committed
adultery. What faith lesson is there in this I can hear someone ask. Well faith
is a leveler.
I believe it is their faith that brought
them in to that picture. You remember that Rahab was mentioned in Hebrews
11 as one of the heroes of faith, that same faith that qualified her there
qualified her and the other ones to be in the genealogy of Christ. The
Scripture says, “it is of faith that it might be by grace that the promise
might be sure to all…” (Romans 4:16).
Faith is a leveler. It does not matter
what your background is, rich, poor, illiterate or educated, elite or not, when
it comes to faith we all are on the same platform. By faith you also can dine
and rub shoulders with the great because you too have become great yourself.
