Romans 4:12
“And the father of circumcision to them who are not
of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our
father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.”
The Scriptures say that we walk by faith,
so faith is a walk and if it is a walk then it is in steps. We live and walk by
faith in steps, one step after another. Abraham the father of faith, his faith
walk was in steps and the Bible says he is the father of us also who walk after
the same steps he walked. In looking at Hebrews Chapter Eleven, we can glean
the steps that are involved in the life of faith.
We have looked at them separately but I
want to bring everything together in one swoop. You can
see all this in Hebrews 11:1-13. Faith brings you righteousness, then
translation and then introduces you to the reverential fear of God. The next
thing that follows these first three is obedience:
“By faith
Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after
receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither
he went.” Hebrews 11:8
You see what enables obedience is a heart
that has been made righteous and has been changed through faith in the saving
power of God and lastly a heart that has the reverential fear of God. Without
those things being in place, obeying God becomes a struggle.
“Through
him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people
from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith.” Romans 1:5
