Heb 6:16-19
“Men swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath
confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. Because God wanted to
make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was
promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two
unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled
to take hold of the hope offered to us
may be greatly encouraged. We have this
hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
I want to give you one more reason why you can have faith in
God and your faith will not fail. God swore to you! Yes God swore to you.
Before we look at why he swore, I want you to understand what it means that God
swore. In Matthew 5:34, we are told not
to swear at all. Moreover, in James it is said anything more letting your yes
be yes and your no being no is sin. This means what God asked you and I not do
He did. Why did He do that? For two main reasons:
Firstly, because He wanted to make very clear to you that He
does not change and if He does not change, His promise too will not change or
fail. Secondly, that you will be encouraged to hold on to the promise.
Now, what does this oath mean? It is to settle all arguments
that you might have about whether the word or promise will come to pass or not.
It is also to be a confirmation to you. Why would God go this far just so that
you can hold unto His word? It is because He loves you. So know today that your
faith will not fail.
